Whimsical Art

02 May 2024 - 17 May 2024
Whimsical Art showcased the imaginative and playful works of Dorado Academy’s Middle and High School students from the 2023-2024 school year.

Guided by artist and teacher Grace Mendoza Egea, the students delved into the creative expression of whimsical art, a genre known for its fantastical, quirky nature, often using bright colors and exaggerated shapes. The exhibition encouraged students to explore new techniques and think outside the box.

In addition to whimsical art, the students also presented works in other mediums:

  • Mosaic Art, where a blend of materials such as colored stone, glass, or ceramic is placed together to form unified images or patterns, showcasing one of the oldest forms of artistic expression.
  • Ceramics Art, which included molded clay sculptures fired in a kiln, demonstrating both traditional and modern approaches to this timeless medium.
  • Kitsch Art, where bright colors and exaggerated forms evoked nostalgia and sentimentality, challenging perceptions of art through its playful and whimsical aesthetic.

The exhibition celebrated the students’ growth as artists while reflecting the power of art to nurture creativity, curiosity, and wonder.
