Danu-flagellates | Danuta Karsten

24 Mar 2024 - 22 Mar 2024
“Danu-Flagellates” is an immersive installation centered around small circular “islands” that float on the surface of water, ranging in diameter from 8 to 15 cm.

These individual floating islands, made of a photoluminescent pigment granulate material, are not connected, so the wind constantly shifts their arrangement. The design of these circles visually resembles algae species, creating a dynamic, ever-changing display that attracts attention through reflections of light during the day.

She was inspired by the special algae dinoflagellates living in waters around Puerto Rico. The bioluminescence phenomenon makes the water surface glow in a green- blueish color due to chemical processes and microorganisms.
